Project / Role Overview

The Lead Power BI Developer is a senior technical leader responsible for designing, architecting, and delivering enterprise-scale Business Intelligence (BI) and Analytics solutions using Microsoft Power BI, Microsoft Fabric, and the Azure Data Platform. This role requires deep expertise in Power BI architecture, semantic modeling, SQL development, cloud analytics, and enterprise reporting.

The successful candidate will work closely with business stakeholders, solution architects, data engineers, and executive leadership to build scalable reporting platforms, establish development standards, mentor technical teams, and drive successful project delivery. The position demands strong technical leadership, excellent communication skills, and extensive experience in enterprise analytics implementations.

Scope of Work

The Lead Power BI Developer will lead the design, implementation, optimization, and governance of enterprise reporting solutions while ensuring high-quality delivery across the entire software development lifecycle. The role includes defining architecture standards, developing scalable semantic models, optimizing reporting performance, implementing security, and enabling business users with meaningful, data-driven insights.

Key Responsibilities

Technical Leadership

• Lead the architecture, design, and implementation of enterprise-scale Power BI reporting solutions.
• Establish Power BI development standards, governance, and best practices across projects.
• Mentor and guide development teams through code reviews, technical discussions, and knowledge-sharing sessions.
• Participate in solution architecture reviews and recommend scalable reporting strategies.
• Drive technical decisions related to semantic models, security, deployment, and performance optimization.
• Ensure delivery of high-quality, maintainable, and scalable analytics solutions.

Power BI Development

• Design and develop interactive Power BI dashboards and reports.
• Build scalable Tabular Models and Semantic Models on top of OLTP and OLAP data sources.
• Develop advanced DAX calculations, KPIs, calculated columns, calculated tables, and performance-optimized measures.
• Implement Row-Level Security (RLS), Object-Level Security (OLS), and workspace governance.
• Optimize Power BI datasets, scheduled refreshes, gateway configurations, and report performance.
• Manage Power BI Service workspaces and deployment pipelines.
• Plan and execute report deployments across multiple environments using version control and CI/CD practices.

SQL & Database Development

• Develop complex SQL/T-SQL queries, stored procedures, views, and database functions.
• Optimize SQL performance and troubleshoot long-running queries.
• Design efficient data models to support enterprise reporting requirements.
• Collaborate with database administrators and data engineering teams to ensure high-performance data access.

Client & Stakeholder Management

• Collaborate with business stakeholders to gather reporting and analytics requirements.
• Translate business requirements into scalable technical solutions.
• Lead client workshops, solution demonstrations, and requirement discovery sessions.
• Provide consulting recommendations for enterprise reporting architecture.
• Present technical concepts effectively to both technical and non-technical audiences.
• Build strong relationships with clients and executive stakeholders throughout project delivery.

Required Qualifications

• Minimum 9+ years of experience in Business Intelligence, Data Warehousing, or Analytics.
• Minimum 6+ years of hands-on experience developing enterprise Power BI solutions.
• Minimum 2+ years of experience leading technical teams or serving as a Technical Lead.
• Strong expertise in:

• Extensive experience with:

• Hands-on experience with Microsoft Fabric and Azure Analytics services, including:

• Experience implementing:

• Microsoft Certified: Power BI Data Analyst Associate (PL-300).
• Microsoft Fabric Certifications DP-600 and/or DP-700.
• Experience with Azure DevOps, Git, and CI/CD pipelines.
• Knowledge of Python or PowerShell for automation.
• Experience working within consulting or professional services organizations.
• Experience leading enterprise BI teams and engaging with executive leadership.
• Strong understanding of enterprise analytics architecture and reporting governance.
